Difference between Cold and Flu
Cold and Flu
In Eastern medicine, particularly Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), both colds and flu are perceived as external pathogenic invasions that disrupt the body’s natural balance and harmony. According to TCM principles, these illnesses are often associated with an imbalance in the body’s vital energies and blood.

It’s important to note that while Western medicine primarily focuses on symptom relief and antiviral medications for the flu, Eastern medicine approaches are more holistic, aiming to address the underlying imbalances in the body and strengthen the body’s self-healing capacity.

What is the difference between cold and flu?

The common cold and influenza (flu) are both respiratory illnesses caused by different viruses, but they have distinct characteristics and treatment approaches in both Western and Eastern medicine.

Cold: The common cold is caused by various viruses, most commonly rhinoviruses. It typically presents with mild symptoms such as a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough, and mild fatigue. Fever is uncommon with a cold.
Flu: Influenza is caused by influenza viruses (types A, B, and rarely C). It generally produces more severe symptoms compared to the common cold. Symptoms include high fever, chills, muscle aches, headache, fatigue, dry cough, sore throat, and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea and vomiting.
